Switching from Google to A9 for the next week

Today Amazon.com launched A9, a new search web site based off of Google's results*, but with extra features. I will report back in 7 days (or so) what I think of the service. For now I can say that it was good enough to make me even consider switching away from Google.

*It can't be completely base off the same results because I get different listings when I use the same search terms. Examples:

A9	Google
guttermouth	guttermouth
paris hilton	paris hilton
mike tyson	mike tyson

UPDATE: 2004-04-26 A9.com has apparently made some type of fix, because the results from what I can tell are completely the same now. My Guttermouth site is listing as #1 which pleases me.

It seems the results are the same. I do like the color layout of Google a little better. It seems clean and crisp.

They might appear the same, but they indeed are not.

"guttermouth" - on Google the official hompage is ranked #1, on A9 the official homepage is nowhere to be found (at least within the first 5 or so pages). This is actually the first word I ever searched on, since I maintain the official site for the band Guttermouth. And this caught my interest.

"paris hilton" - on Google the #1 has a page title of "Paris Hilton Video", this listing is missing from page 1 on A9's results.

"mike tyson" - on Google the 5th listing titled "JOYCE CAROL OATES: ON MIKE TYSON" is right between the ESPN and The Smoking Gun listings. On A9 this listing is absent from the results.

There are on three quick searches I did. If it wasn't for my own site missing from it's #1 rank on I probable would have never noticed, but now my interests are peeked - so I plan to look further and see if any one else has noticed this.
